Who is Mac?

Maktub… in your language would be something like it is written.

Maktub

“Maktub” or “Mactub” or “Mac”, for short, means something like.. it is written.

What is written exactly? Your fate sealed in the stars? Maybe. Or maybe it’s something a little more flexible.. something that has a little more breathing room. Maybe what is written is a purpose etched onto your soul. Maybe what ‘is written’ is an imperfectly perfect journey that opens up ahead of you each time you say YES. Maybe what ‘is written’ is a path that reveals itself each time you say NO to a false story about who you are not. Maybe what is written are each of the teachers you’ll meet along the way.

Maybe the journey has been written, but you still have to say YES, to find your treasure. Even if you don’t know exactly where the road will take you (hardly anyone ever does), each YES and NO (if you pay attention) will guide you towards the next right step.

The Yoga Mac’s Journey

The Yoga Mac was born on September 7, 2016 as a yoga studio in New Bern, NC. Within the four walls of that space, a community of yogis came together to practice. We stretched our bodies and our limiting beliefs.

As we evolved in this space, it became clear that it was time to move onto the next stage of our journey. Our owner, Kate MacDonald, realized that it was time to say YES to pursuing a degree in Clinical Counseling and time to close the doors of the studio. Immediately, a new path emerged and The Yoga Mac was On The Move, finding new spaces in the community to practice. Our first pop-up yoga class was a celebration of the good ol’ days at dirtybarnVintage where we honored the past because of who it allows us to be in the present moment. A month later, at the beginning of 2019, the Mac’s gathered at The Chelsea where we flow’d & brunch’d in celebration of the turning of a new page.

For now, the Mac will keep on movin’- popping up in spaces all around New Bern.

No matter where the Mac moves next, we will always be a YES for:

MOVEMENT, GROWTH, POSSIBILITY, COMMUNITY, CONNECTION, EMPOWERMENT & FUN

MOVEMENT

We are a YES for progress not perfection. We are a YES for getting out of ‘over-thinking’ and into motion. We believe that there are infinite possibilities that reveal themselves as soon as you get movin’!

GROWTH & POSSIBILITY

We are a YES for identifying the habits that are keeping you stuck and releasing the limiting beliefs that are holding you back from shaping your wildest dreams into your present reality. We believe that YOU are powerful beyond measure and that the magic happens outside your comfort zone.

COMMUNITY & CONNECTION

We are a YES for doing this together. We believe that YOU are exquisitely unique , inherently worthy, and perfectly imperfect as you are right now. We are a YES for reconnecting to your authentic self and sharing your light with the world.

EMPOWERMENT & FUN

We are a YES for the tools that will help you rediscover a youthful enthusiasm for your life. We believe that YOU have the capacity to design a body that is beaming with energy and days that are filled with joy.

Mrs. Mac

Owner & Instructor

Kate MacDonald was born in New Bern but spent two decades making moves around South Carolina, Florida, and Europe before finding her way back to her hometown in 2014. She loves all things yoga and psychotherapy and weaves the ancient wisdom and undeniable health benefits of yoga with various counseling practices to guide students through a transformative experience they can take off their mats and into their world.

Yoga first discovered her during a time when she was searching for a shift from one chapter to the next in her own personal maktub story. It was at a seaside South Florida studio fortuitously named Kate Yoga, and she knew after her initial class that this practice would be more than just a workout she did every now and then; it would become a way of life. After pouring through all the texts she could get her hands on and studying rigorously with her own “Yoga Kate,” she began teaching full-time just 6 months after she stumbled into that studio. Her classes have evolved into a space where students are encouraged to give up limiting beliefs, make moves beyond their comfort zones, laugh, ground, and embrace their own perfectly imperfect maktub journeys.

Kate is an E-RYT 200-hour Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance, is Tier 1 Certified in Baptiste Yoga, is a Yoga for 12-Step Recovery Leader, is Kid’s Yoga Certified, Yoga Life Coach Trained, and also teaches Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga. She is currently completing a Master of Science in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in Addiction and Rehabilitation at ECU and is on track to graduate in December of 2020. When not upside down on her yoga mat or with her nose in a book, Kate can be found making moves on a kite board next to her husband, Jamie Mac.

Creative Director

Michelle Pascetta discovered her passion for yoga during the final year of completing her B.S. in Finance & Marketing at the Stern School of Business at NYU.  After the tremendous shift she experienced through her practice, she decided to travel around the world after graduation to seek a “higher level of consciousness."  During that time she completed her 200 hour YTT through the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in Vrindavan, India and discovered that we don’t actually need to go very far to practice mindfulness.  After returning from her travels she used all she had learned about finding balance, being present and moving with ease - to support her journey as a yogi, a tech & media banker and the creative director of Mac’s on the Move.

Michelle holds a 200 RYT designation with Yoga Alliance. She is also a graduate of the Strala Intensive for Teachers program, where she trained with the Yoga Rebel, Tara Stiles and has completed the Spirit Junkie Masterclass Level One Training with Gabrielle Bernstein.  Michelle has also studied Essential Yoga Anatomy with Jason Crandell and Paul B. Roache, M.D.
